Thursday 30th August 2026 marked a very special day for the Doshi Kai Shotokan Karate club as they wanted to celebrate their departure from the current Dojo (Training hall or the place of the “Way” in Japanese) in Acton, MA to the new place in Prescott Community Center in Groton, MA. This significant transition represented not just a change of location, but also an exciting new chapter in the club’s journey, fostering a broader community engagement and providing members with enhanced training facilities. Students, instructors, and families eagerly gathered to honor the memories created within the walls of the old Dojo, sharing heartfelt stories and demonstrating their skills in a final showcase. As they prepared to embrace the opportunities ahead, the event reflected the strong bonds forged through perseverance and discipline in martial arts, making it a memorable occasion for everyone involved.

Founded by Sensei Matsuyama Nago as the chief instructor in early 1980s, Doshi Kai has become the most authentic and honored Shotokan Karate school for the serious practitioners who want to study the way of the empty hand as a way of life. They wanted to celebrate their new beginning by a hard training session followed by food worth the legacy of a Japanese Samurai, and doing so they chose non other than The Perfect Curry for this very special Occassion to enjoy our unique flavors in Sri Lankan fusion food.

A blend of Sri Lankan fusion food items were made available for everyone to enjoy and share throughout the night. These included,

• Colombo style Chicken Curry made with Oven Baked Chicken Thighs that are perfectly cooked to a beautiful golden color and topped with deliciously crisped onion rings for that extra crunch and flavor.
• Sri Lankan style aromatic Yellow Rice, infused with a unique blend of spices, mixed generously with fried jumbo cashews for added crunch, and elegantly topped with sweet and savory caramelized onion, creating a delightful harmony of flavors and textures.
• Sweet and sour Egg plant “moju” with a creamy texture and a delightful blend of deep flavors that tantalize the taste buds, offering a perfect balance between sweetness and tanginess that leaves a lasting impression.
• Traditional Sri Lankan green beans deeply immersed in creamy coconut milk.
• Additional sides of long grain white rice fluffy and soft.
• Appetizers included deep fried Papad (Lentil chips), which are expertly prepared to achieve a perfect crispiness, accompanied by a vibrant Sri Lankan fusion Salsa. This unique salsa features the traditional Sri Lankan “Lunu Miris,” known for its spicy tang, enhanced with a bold Mexican kick that adds an exciting twist to the flavor profile of the dish.

While Colombo Style Chicken curry became the King of the menu in the center of the meal, Yellow Rice, with its vibrant saffron hue and delicate spices, took the prize for the most flavorful rice dish our clients have experienced, leaving them yearning for more with every delightful bite. Egg Plant Moju, an enticing blend of tangy and savory flavors, was a pleasant new experience for the crowd, introducing them to an exotic taste that was both refreshing and memorable. Meanwhile, Lentil chips dipped in mildly hot Salsa became a pure sensation for everyone, offering a perfect balance of crunch and spice that elevated the overall dining experience, making it not just a meal, but a culinary journey that delighted the senses.

It was an honor for The Perfect Curry to serve Doshi Kai Karate community in this milestone of their legacy. We would like to wholeheartedly send our gratitude to them and wish them all the best in their next chapter.
